Whether you prepare your own tax returns, or you hire a paid Tax Preparer…YOU MUST look at these 5 things before e-filing to avoid errors, refund delays, etc.........
Make sure all names are spelled correctly. Make sure you use the name filed with the Social Security Administration. So if you got married, but didn’t change your name yet…use your single name.
Double check your social security numbers to match the tax return info with your social security card. Verify this on ALL tax forms.
Common areas of abuse are excess Child Tax Credits, Earned Income Credits and Education credits. If these credits show up on page 2 of your 1040, make sure you are entitled to them.
Make sure this shows the correct amount. Also, if you had more than one job during the year and earned more than the Social Security contribution limit, make sure the computer picked up your excess Social Security withheld…this will give you a nice refund!

When using direct deposit…double & triple check your routing number and account number. If you use the wrong number and someone else gets your refund, the IRS cannot help you. You will have to sue that person to get your money back, unless they voluntarily hand over your refund. That doesn’t always happen
